Thread: Good AM for small fish 10/16/2020

Gary Fomby aka Biofisher and I hit the water this morning to brisk NW winds and chilly temps, but with high expectations. The only thing disappointing with our catch today was size. But numbers were great.

We started off in the main river offshore, but the wind was so tough, that we quickly decided to hit a bay in the area and look for fish in brush. We found a couple of brush piles and had a ball reeling in little fish after little fish. Gary caught the smallest bass that I have seen and I had a tiny yellow bass and very small crappie.

We caught between 40 and 50 fish in that area but only 5 keepers. The wind was NW and after a while, the wind shifted to North. Another 30 minutes or so and the wind shifted to the NE and the wind abated a lot with the frontal passage. We were still catching fish on every other cast and decided that we could probably go back to the river and fish our first spot.

Good move as I was able to put 4 nice keepers in the boat, almost had another one to the boat and had two more bites that I didn’t hook up. We had 9 total keepers for the day.

Current flow was 46,000 plus and water temp was 70.8. Fish were all deep. Bass Assassin Bluegrass was my hot lure on 1/16 oz and Gary’s hot bait was Bobby Garland Blue Ice On 1/16 oz. We didn’t take many pics. A couple of tiny fish just for laughs.

Little ones now mean keepers later!
