    Default Good Day and Deed

Been a while since I posted a report, partly because a couple weeks ago one of my 225 horses threw a shoe. Seems as if some braided fishing line ruined the rear seal around the prop and water got into the lower unit. Now when this happened I do not know, what I do know is I never saw a leak from the unit due to keeping my motor trimmed up in between trips, which is a couple times a week in the summer. The lower unit oil was pooling in the prop housing...and not leaking out on the carport where I would have spotted it immediately. By the time all gear lube was replaced by lake water....well it was done too late...as Jerry Clower would say. So last week I got the boat back reshod and ready, even put a new onboard battery charger on to replace the original one that was having some electrical issues itself. First trip out, I found a slick slate point loaded with bait and a bevy of species.

In 20ft of water I enjoyed the cast and retrieve thump from a big bully Bass, a couple slimers, and a host of specks. Monkey Milk on a sharp 1/24oz jighead with 3lb braid... it was fun. Fast forward to tonight, thought I might go try something a little different for a couple hours then ease back to last weeks honey hole. Well 15mph winds hampered my efforts, and I just began riding around looking for bait and structure. Found a new landslide, we had a very wet spring and some of the steep bluffs lost trees and soil into the water....instant Crappie structure. The electronics said someone was home, so I dropped the old Monkey Milk BGBS on a 1/32 LW jighead into the fray and thump, a nice White. 3 more drops, 3 more fish.

Happening so fast I remembered to take a pic on number 4. Good size, they were choking the bait deep.

Number 6 was a brute, and number 7 was a thick and stocky Black.

A Dinner Plate fish. Now here is where I did something I NEVER do....decided to leave biting fish to go to my spot from last week and give it a try. Yes I know...never leave fish to go look for fish, but I like the cast and retrieve bite...a lot. Well I am glad I left when I did, about halfway back to my destination, I saw what looked like a person waving from the far bank in a small white boat. Slowed, and sure enough they were against the bank waving a paddle. A Sea Doo type boat thing with an older couple, they were having motor issues and needed a tow.

Of course I obliged, and towed them about a mile or so to the nearest ramp where they could call for assistance and get their truck and trailer retrieved from another ramp. Dark now, no cast and retrieve this night, but a good deed done and 7 is a mighty fine mess for me.

Size was good and these three were all over 12in. Felt good to be back in the saddle, and I am already thinking about that slate point...maybe Friday afternoon? Stay safe.

Lucky 7 for the Sea Doo owner.
I loved the sentence you left biting fish to find more, I thought DK was the only fisherman I knew to do that. Must be a confidence thing w great anglers. Love the report, as always I feel like I’m in the boat w you!

I have told you to stop using that braid... your lower unit would still be in good working order otherwise :D glad you got out and stuck some... the couple was lucky you saw them or they still might be paddling!

    Hey Stan,
Thanks for a great report and for your good deed to boot. Awfully good for you to lend a helping hand in time of need.
Sorry to hear about your seal getting damaged by the braid. Could happen to any of us.
Real nice 7 fish , good going and glad to hear you are back in action.

That's it Stan, a blessing is as a blessing dose. In my bestest Forrest Gump voice...
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6
