    Default Dog days crappie. 8/07/20

I think that we are still in Dog Days and the crappie are biting, so I’m not going to complain about this morning’s catch. We did better today than yesterday morning. We had 11 keepers and 6 short crappie and one bass of the trash green flavor but it was lucky that it wasn’t quite 15” long which is the length limit on Largemouth bass in most of Tennessee.

Our presentation had to change from yesterday’s presentation, and the hot lures were different, but being able to adjust, adapt, and figure out what it takes to get the fish to bite is the joy of fishing. It is a sport second to none, to coin a phrase by Richard Gene the fishing machine. Lolol.

Current flow was 12,400 at 6:30 and increased to 25,400 at 8 am. I normally want to quit at nine thirty, but Phil wanted to stay an extra hour. He should have listened to me as all we did that extra hour was get in casting practice. Who needs Livescope to catch fish? It might be a wonderful toy, but not everyone can afford one and they should not be used in tournaments because it gives the anglers an unfair advantage. I probably just made a bunch of people mad, and if I did, I hope you get over it. I don’t mean to offend. Grin.

The hot lures today were Bobby Garland Crappie Sliders with a red jig head 3/32 oz., and a 3” Crappie Magnet in Glimmer Blue with a blue head on 3/32 oz. It was smoking hot. I was beating Phil so bad until I finally convinced him to put one of mine on. The fish were basically on the 18 foot drop off and down to 25 feet. Barely crawling the jig and giving a slight palsy twitch at the drop and then dead sticking the jig back to the boat by barely making one turn on the reel handle after every 3rd lift, slight twitch, then drop. That is what it took to get bites today.

The normal lift drop or the slow rolling, or aggressive twitches did not work. We had to change what we normally do. Some people tell you to move if fish don’t bite after 4 casts to an area. Do it if that makes you feel better about yourself, but when you know good fish are on your location, it pays to take the time to find out what presentation it takes to get bites. Sometimes it is color change, sometimes it is profile change, And indeed, sometimes it is location change.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Rest day coming up tomorrow.
    My big crappie was 13.75”.

Another lesson learned DK. Give'em heck, I don't need no stinking $3000.00 Livescope to catch fish.
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6
