Default He is back. Out of isolation. 8/4/20

Dr Phillip came by and rescued me from isolation. Health department said that my 10 days were up. I am feeling fine and wanting to stretch a line. So it was off to the Riverpark area to fish for bluegills with some Catawba worms. The man who gave all these worms to me said that they are the best bluegill bait ever. I believe him now. Grin.

We caught several small bluegills and then Phil wanted to put them on our Striper rods and fish for catfish. So we dug out our rods and up to the dam and fished the trash gate area. He put the bluegills on and I decided to just stay with the last few Catawba worms that I had.

Oh, before I get into this story too far, just know that it is a fishing tale (no pics). I landed a couple of channel catfish on the worms while Phil is still searching for his first bite. While we were in the trash gate area, some bass were chasing big Shads down the wing wall but I didn’t have anything on to fish for them. So I picked up a crappie rod with a Bobby Garland baby Shad on and tossed into the melee.

About halfway back to the boat, the rod loaded up and it was game on. I hooked a monster of a fish on the jig. When I first saw the fish, I said that it was a Paddlefish, but I couldn’t see the long bill that most paddlefish have, so I was a little bit confused about its identity. I thought it might be a sturgeon but I have never caught one of those.

Phil pick up his phone and made a couple of one minute videos of the battle. You can see the fish really good in the clear water, but can’t see the bill on the fish. We finally wore down the fish and got its head into my little crappie net. Most of its bill had been broken off somehow and the jig was snagged on the 3” bill that was left. It would not go in the net for length so we dumped it back out with intentions of using my catfish grabber. The fish went straight down and broke the leader line. At least we had our hands on the fish and leader so I’m counting it as a catch. Got it on video but no still pics.

I did catch a little bass just before we called it a morning at 9:30. I wish that I knew how to post the video.
