Default Dog days crappie and bass. 7/15/20

My wife, Wanda, told me that we were in dog days. She didn’t say that I was a dog for fishing so much. Big Grin. I made her happy by bringing home 4 keeper sized bass, 15.5-17” and they are destined for the dinner plate tonight. Boss Lady has already ruled on that. Lolol

The crappie fishing was borderline, sucky. It is frustrating when you locate fish on offshore structure or deep brush and they politely refuse everything that you offer. Only 3, 9” Crappie wanted to play and they had a 10.25” babysitter that was returned to keep the nursery.

Scottie and I did manage to sink the crappie condo at daybreak and we were lucky that there was not another boat in the area when we dropped the hotel in 22 feet of water.

We hit two more of my hotspots without so much as a sniff and I told him that the last place that we try, we give it 3 or 4 casts and then we put the boat on the trailer. It was already about 20 minutes past our appointed time and it was getting hot fast. I was on my last cast and was just dead sticking the jig in 19 feet of water, when lo and behold, a very nice keeper nailed it.

I quickly told Scottie where and what not to do and on almost consecutive casts, we landed 5 keepers in a row and then the fish shut up again. I guess that we caught the dumb ones, my favorite ones to catch.

On a side note to the report, the presentation technique that I said that I was going to try today and that I would report on it...it needs refining before I go and ‘splain what I am doing. I’m just trying to stay ahead of the curve. We have some great crappie fishermen on our lake.

Is that shot the condo you sank? Nice report, and if I may ask, how does the Mrs like the bass cooked?

Wanda likes the bass egg washed, rolled in cornmeal and fried. She said that it isn’t fish unless it is fried. I sautéed mine tonight in garlic butter. I’m watching carb count. Grin.

LM and SM Bass get a pass here most days, the spotted KY brand will meet the knife usually due to the abundance and liberal limits of said species. I fished Wednesday afternoon and did well, but man was it hot. Good catch and I liked the hotel pick from Tuesday.
