Fiscal Year Fish
July 1st, the beginning of the new fiscal year for the bean counters, and I can say that because my wife is one and she is busy as two beavers building a bonfire. With the day off, I employed a new rod, a couple old reliable ones and headed to the big pond for some deep water probing and maybe fire a jig at a dock or two before it got hot.

New stick, going to try it as a dock shooter, hear good things about the action so let’s get it slimed.

It works, actually works well. I caught several on the new stick and even switched back to my normal jig flinger to make a comparison.

These two rods will be my go to for docks from now on. I did probe a few deep spots, 20+ ft, and found some home there also.

Monkey Milk, Blue Ice, and another glittery Bobby Garland Baby Shad proved to be the bait of choice, and Lite Wire hooks were definitely needed. The new rod got its share of slime, a great way break it in.

A good livewell full came home for the knife and freezer. Happy New Fiscal Year, and be safe out there.

Not a better way to break in a new rod than to put a hurting on some slabs. Great job of fishing.

Great job on the outing. That's a nice mixed bag. Those rods are not familiar to me. They look great but are more than likely out of budget for me. I don't know what 15,300 translated to dollars would be but probably more than $50. Would you tell us about them? I see the are made in Vietnam but are they some of the JDM rods I have read a little about on the panfish forum in the past? What kind of reel do you put on awesome rods like those pictured?

Stan will add more to it I’m sure but that particular rod would run you around 150... they are great rods... you get a lot of bang for your buck with major craft rods... the one he used to dock shoot with has a tubular tip... I have the same model but in the 6’8” length... if you are interested in possibly purchasing one digitaka is a great resource and you can find them listed under the ajing rods... hope this helps and any 1000 series or 2000 series reel would mate pretty well with this rod... I myself prefer daiwa reels

Hey Jay sorry for the delayed response about the rods and reels used on July 1. Majorcraft makes the Triple Cross used, and in the 7.3ft length this rod is good for Vertical Jigging deep structure, float fishing with live bait and jigs, and dock shooting. It is considered a JDM rod and is well worth the price. A St Croix Panfish series rod in about the same length is roughly 6 dollars less than what I paid. Lightweight, a little over 2 ounces, and sensitive this rod is an excellent entry level dip in the JDM pool. The tubular tip makes it an excellent dock shooting rod, and paired with a small sized Daiwa reel and light line you will take full advantage of the technology the Japanese rod makers possess. On the Panfish board you will see a lot of discussion about the Triple Cross, the ShellCracker guys use them to battle with the Bluegill on steroids and I have stuck many a White Bass with said rod.
