    Default Kayak on Chicamauga

I live in SC. My son recently moved to Athens, Tn. We are looking to try Chicamauga in Kayaks at end of month. Neither of us have ever been to Chicamauga. Any advice on where we may have some luck. I want to try to fish smaller sections of water if possible because of boat traffic. Any advice would be appreciated.

Give the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge a try, its open this time of year, they have traffic restrictions from Nov 15 - Mar 1 for migratory birds. It's a big tributary and has waters only accessible to kayak's. Mind you though, still has a bit of boat traffic at times. Tight lines!
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6

I have friend who was in a Kayak tourney down there but cant remember were they launched from. I went down the end of last March and it was at Winter pool, after checking the corp web site, it looks like they let it come back up for summer pool on the beginning of April. I will mention we went down for bass, but wasnt having much luck, but found the crappie staging at the mouths of creeks the last day there, so we anchored down casted jigs and limited out in no time, so if youu have electronics on your yaks check the creeks it you might hit gold!

I would suggest Sale Creek, a bit less boat traffic, more protected from any winds that be up that day.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Grasshopper Creek campground/ rec area also produces well that time of year. It’s a mid size creek that a kayak can cover from one end to the other in a day. Clean and secure facility with a $5 access fee.

If you want to avoid boat traffic on Chickamauga, I suggest fishing from 1 am until 3 am. Grin. Just kidding. With the crappie spawn going on, it will be busy most places. Be careful.
