I'm from up North originally, came here to visit my parents for a visit 25yrs ago after they relocated and NEVER looked back!

I've spent quite a bit of time in central Illinois, especially in winter....by my estimation, that is also a GOOD PLACE TO BE FROM!

Yes with FROM being the key word
I just get angrier and angrier with the Illinois government. My latest gripe is my trailer plate cost. It's been $18 forever. This year will be $100. Even my small trailer that hauls my 12 ft jon will be $100. I want out and can't wait to retire. I may just leave the door keys on the front porch with a sign that says "Take it, it's your. I'm outta here".

THERE'S MANY REASONS I DIDN'T GO BACK! (Among them, not even HAVING to run plates on recreation boat trailers in Tennessee)

I do miss a few things but not enough to ever want to go back for any amount of time. Cost of living is WAYYY cheaper down here, plenty of good jobs to be had, weather is MUCH BETTER (although it does still get pretty cold for short spells), nice folks, beautiful mountains (I remember getting on my roof up there and being able to see 30 miles over top of PERFECTLY FLAT corn fields)

...and for an outdoorsman/sportsman, this place is pretty close to heaven. Central Illinois (and many other areas up North) is pretty awesome during the whitetail rut, but the other 50 weeks out of the year DON'T HOLD A CANDLE to this place.

I will say I have lived near Nashville, in Knoxville and now Chattanooga. Fishing has been good in all these areas. You can’t go wrong with any of these locations. I really liked fishing Center Hill in the spring time but the lake would humble me very quickly in the summer time. Some really nice black crappie in Center Hill. Fishing is going to be very good there soon when the lake returns to normal levels. It’s drawn down 18 ft for dam safety work. Similar situation a few years ago on Lake Cumberland and fishing has been great the last 2-3 years. I would suggest checking out the middle TN fishing forum and the Chattanooga fishing forum to see what others are saying. Be glad to show you around if your in the Chattanooga area. Feel free to PM if you want to talk more.
