Default 11-3 pm crappie trip Feb 16, 2020

After what seems like forever because of incessant rain and high water and much current in the river, we finally had a fish able day without the wind blowing too badly.

Water was still stained sandy brown color and muddy in some spots, with 166,000 plus cubic feet per second flowing in the river, so we sort of stayed in bays. We did a lot of scouting early and found what looked like a good school of crappie fishing the end of a dock, but the fish had lockjaw.

We finally went to my old teaching dock and scanned it and lo and behold, a nice group of fish showed up on our graph, and were eager to bite for a few minutes. Long enough for us to land 7 keepers with two more nice crappie pulling off and several shorts later.

We caught another keeper on the bluff and a couple of short crappie and I hooked and fought one of my pet Drums, at least we think it was a Drum. It pulled off before we saw it and boat rule number 3 says that if we hook a big fish and it pulls off before we see it, then it is a Drum. Lolol. It was on a point where I have caught Drum on the last two trips.

Crappie Magnets and Bobby Garland Slab Slayers in Lights Out color landed every fish today. Other colors were tried, but failed. The big fish that pulled off was on a purple/chartreuse Crappie Magnet. This is a pretty good lure but it twists on the jig and constant adjustments have to be made to keep it looking and fishing right.

Was a beautiful day for it DK. Hoping to get out and test out the new prop over the next couple of days'.
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6

Great day! I really wanted to fish, but just didn’t have confidence in the lake , post monsoon. Thus, fly rod on my trout stream, and the bigguns wanted to eat!!
