Default Hotel planting, little fishing 01/28/20

I had surgery on my left thumb last week to remove a cyst and free up the joint so that I could resume crappie fishing. I wasn’t supposed to fish until I get the stitches out which will be next Monday, but my brother in law gave me some Nitrile gloves size 2XXL and they covered the bandage so that it wouldn’t get wet, so I said to my friend Jay W let’s go drop a couple of crappie hotels, scout places for three other hotels and fish some.

Mission accomplished. We dropped the first hotel in a dense fog but on a spot that I had previously earmarked for. 5 star crappie hotel and then we moved about 1/4-1/2 mile away and found a perfect spot for the second one. Jay dropped it and I put a waypoint on it and expect it to be loaded with crappie in another month or so when the fish begin their annual migration back to the spawning grounds.

Then we scouted quite a while and picked out two more spots for crappie hotels. We fished and located quite a number of fish on the graph but they were very reluctant to bite initially. One keeper and a couple of short fish and then we moved on.

I found more fish on the graph but we could not buy a bite from these fish. We had to leave at 1:00 pm so that Jay could go pick up his little one from school. We had 15 more minute to fish before we had to put the boat on the trailer so we decided to go back to the area that we first caught fish.

About 5 minutes until 1 or the time that we had to leave, Jay caught a short crappie. i had missed two bites prior to his hooking up. Then I caught a keeper just before one. At two minutes after, we hooked up a double and had to stop fishing. 3 keepers on consecutive casts. Jay’s keeper on our double was a 14” tarp fatty. We didn’t measure mine but it is hard to tell on the pic which was which. All fish released.

Water temp was 46.1 at 9:30 and 49 degrees at 1 pm. Flow was 59,000 cubic feet per second. Water color was great.

I'll second the mission accomplished. Thanks for the teamwork. I feel like we really hit the mark on the hotels - now to see if the crappie agree.

Good Job I'm waiting on the email with the coordinates, to save you some time and effort, just wait till you have them all set out.
It's going to rain tomorrow so I guess I'll just tie some jigs and polish the boat.
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6

Good catch, and great looking structure. Been doing a little of that myself, taking advantage of the low water levels.

You get any structure pics after they took a swim?
Have you been using those for a while?
How much weight to sink them?

i will try to get screen pics today, Redge. Jay put about 40 lbs of quik Crete but 20 is probably enough if they are planted out of the main river channel. Lots of current there sometimes.
