    Default Full moon crappie. 101419

Gary Fomby, aka Biofisher decided to play hooky today instead of attending meetings for the schools. Grin. I’m so glad that he did. We had a foggy morning start, but it turned out very nice. He told me at the beginning that this was going to be a double limit day. It was and more as we landed 40 keepers and we conservatively estimated 3 shorts for every keeper that we had. We both took home a limit.

Lake level is 679.82 at this precise moment which is just under 2 feet below summer level. Current speed today was 13,019 cfs while we were fishing from 7:30 until 11:30. Water surface temp was 72.3 degrees. The fish were pretty active even if many of the bites were very subtle. Thank goodness for line watching and Hi-Vis Suffix elite 4 lb test line.

Color really didn’t matter today as we caught fish on 4 different colors of panfish assassins, 1.5” Tiny Shads and a Garlic Chartreuse tail light. We mostly fished 1/32 oz jigs in the creek, but had to go to 1/16 oz jigs for a brief stop in the river where the current was moving and the north wind blowing as well, but we caught 10 more keepers on that spot. This may be where I will start the Forgotten Child crappie tournament this Saturday.

The moon will be waning by Saturday and each day the bite will get tougher, but I think that I can catch 7 fish, but don’t have a clue if they will be big enough to make any difference. It doesn’t matter to me. This tx is all about the kids.

Great job! Do you mind sharing your thoughts on the moon's effect this time of year? I always thought it had more to do with timing the now active weather fronts in the fall.

LOVE IT. You still fishin' deep, DK? Seems like the fish are everywhere right now, both shallow and deep. We got out Sunday for a few hours, kind of expecting the deep bite to start slowing down, but they were still stacked up like flapjacks in 20+. Probably my best day of the summer for numbers AND quality. Will try to post a report when the guy I took sends me the pics

That’s a perfect foggy morning! Good luck in the tournament, hope they have a big turnout for the children!
Im seeing more traffic back in creek now as well, lots of dock shooting going on close to me.
