    Default 08/10/19 Chickamauga Crappie

Put it at 5am at the dam and headed up river. Fished for the trashy green fish for a while and then decided to try to get some dinner. Hit 3 brushpiles in around 20ft that were loaded with fish, but again could not get them to move. I decided to look deeper. I scanned for the next 2 hours and found a new spot in about 25ft. It was the mother load. I am still not sure what the cover is. It is large, 5 to 6 ft high, and I could drop on top of it and not get hung up. The fish were fighting for the bait. I got me 8 quick ones to eat, and went to look for more spots. No monsters but all 8 were right at 11 inches. Felt good to catch a few. Caught all them with a ice BG with a split shot and a 1/24 jig. I have found that putting a split shot makes it really stand out on the livescope. Water temp was almost 90 at noon when I caught the fish.

Good job! Hanging in there with it! Time on the water pays off for sure!

Me thinks you may have found one of DK’s Bamboo hotels . But anyway, good catch, and we do like pictures, especially the Speckled Bellied ones. Green fish are optional!

Dont think it is bamboo. I have found several bamboo hotels and this is completely different. Went back last night and they were still there. I think it could be a sunken dock. It is very large, but i have yet to get hung up on it. Pulled 6 off of it last night in about 15 minutes and then went and chased the greenies.
I dont have any LS shots of the crappie yet. I will try to get some. I do have several of bass.

That livescope looks like a lot of entertainment. Thanks for sharing. Has it taught you a few things about fish that you didn't know or thought you knew but was mistaken?

It is unreal what can be learned. My HDS down and side will miss alot of fish, especially on brush piles. Sometimes a brush pile will have a few fish on it, and the school will be 30 ft off to one side. There are days where the fish just will not react to anything. I have been tempted at times to drop my anchor on top of them, just to see if they will move out of the way. . I need to get better at just moving on, instead of trying to force feed fish that arent active.
