Weird looking Zombie fish. Grin. Thanks for the fine report.
Drumking got up and out this morning and enjoyed the nice cool weather we received from an unusual but welcome cold front in mid July. His report was similar to my findings, lake up 2+ feet over summer pool and fish lying right on the bottom. I snuck away about 4pm from work and hooked up the old boat and headed off to the lake. As expected, the water was dingy/ muddy at the ramp area so I put the 225 horses to good use and ran down the lake about 4 miles to look for some clearer waters. I found a large pocket that seemed a little clearer and started looking on the depth finder for some baitfish and structure. New waters for me, but the summertime pattern of deep fish held true for this area, and I soon located some small Crappie.

Where there are little ones, big ones are usually nearby.
?
Slab Sauce was necessary in the stirred up waters, and soon a few keepers were found. Bobby Garland Baits were used on 1/32oz lead heads with Lite wire hooks.
?
I caught a Zombie Fish, probably about the creepiest looking Crappie I have ever seen, he was emaciated, very light colored, barely an inch thick, 10.5in long and had the evil eye on one side.
?
Weird looking for sure. As Drumking stated, the fish were hanging right on the bottom.

Caught a bunch, released most to grow and be caught another day. I did keep some for a nice dinner tomorrow night, no bucket or board shots tonight, just a fun evening after work in the cooler weather that Mother Nature has provided. Get out there if you can, they are biting.

I drove by the mud hole (lake) yesterday, and didn’t have the desire. My Mom got sick right after Mother’s Day, and between staying with her in the hospital and taking care of my bed bound Dad, my brother and I have had a hopping summer. We lost Mom two weeks ago, and the shock and sadness of this has affected my desire to hook up the boat. I’m hoping to get out soon.....in fact, I have a camping/ trout fishing trip planned with my wife and our best friends!

I, with the others, am sorry to hear of your loss. I dread the day when I will have to go through the experience. Those hills and them rivers up there have a therapeutic effect, even if the fish don't cooperate. Haven't been up there in a while, be sure to get pics and post when you get back
