    Default Percy Priest crappie

Wife and I were enjoying our cup of Joe on the back porch yesterday morning and I commented on how it might be a good day to go fish with the clouds and a slight breeze. We were pulling the boat out of the drive about 30 minutes later. We got to mid lake around 10:00 and began trolling at 1.4 mph in 16 fow. We caught one on our first pass, we both thought this is going to be great day. We went back no fish turned around and came back again no fish. We made a couple more passes speeding up and running a little deeper one way a little shallower the run back. Nothing, then we went back to 1.4 mph and made "the last run" before we were going to move to another location, by the end of that run, we picked up 2 more. We made a couple more passes to see if it was going to pick up, which it didn't. We moved to another flat, that we have not tried to date but had talked about trying. On the first run my wife hooked into what we thought was a cat, the way it was fighting I began to think this was a really big cat, the closer we got the more I doubted it was a cat, it was making long runs before giving back some line, finally she got it close to the boat and it was a 6 to 8 lb hybrid, we landed it and released to fight another day, I got to tell you, she had a heck of a fight on a 14' rod and didn't end up tangling any of the other lines. In the next two hours we put 9 more in the well and also put back 6 cats. At the end of the day we had 7 crappie of the 12 that ranged 13 3/4" to 14", (would have been a good tournament bag) best color again was Pico pink spatter and Arkie pink with black stripe in the 300 series each brand, we settled in on 1.6 mph and stayed in the 16 to 14 fow range. We marked a lot of good looking schools of fish, most I would say were crappie, but didn't seem to pick them up from the schools as it was a single here and there just at a more frequent rate than the first flat. Hoping to get out next Saturday early.

    Have a great day,

    Ray and Audrey

Good job on being persistent. It's not always easy to find them but it pays off when you do.

Ray and Audrey, I troll midlake on JPP a lot too. What kind of boat are you in? I'll make sure to wave next time I see you out there!

We are in an older Ranger Comanche, silver with burgundy and 150 Evenrude. My rods are set up at the front which is a little different than most. We are thinking about going this Saturday morning, we'll see.

'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6
