The Tennessee Vols May have pulled out a close one this afternoon, but my bracket is already busted! Look who is bringing up the rear in our small 10 player group.
So what do I do after supper, run down to Small Fish creek and whack a few. The wind was howling about 10-15mph, hard to throw 2lb test line on an UL, so I found a little area behind a culvert that had some clear moving water and pitched a small jig in hopes of a bite or seven. The fish did not disappoint with 3 different species landed and photographed successfully. First up, a slew of small gills, 4-7in is normal for this creek, and it was on like Donkey Kong for these little biters.
This is about the normal size, but I do enjoy the bite and fight! Of course those old Green Fish are still prowling the creeks right now and I know I caught at least 10 Spotted Bass, all in breeding plumage themselves.
That single spot on the tongue is a sure fire way to distinguish them from their larger cousin if you are not sure of the identification. Next up, getting a little better on the Gills.
A Largemouth joined the party, look at his tongue, no patch.
Then a drag squealing Female Spot full of eggs and probably Shad took my Lunkerhunt grub for a ride.
Pretty fat specimen she was, pushing 2lbs and normally would have made the trip home but everyone got a pass this evening. Near dark I hit two nice gills pushing the 7in mark on back to back casts, one was a bug eyed looking specimen but still fought like a champ.
Last fish of the night was another Largehead, a good fighter in his own right.
I thanked them all and headed home to watch the late evening Round Ball games. With both Brackets at the bottom, I can only move up!!!

It was a lot of fun for sure. As I was leaving here were two guys on the other side of the culvert where the wind was blowing straight in on and had the water stirred up and dingy. I asked them if they had caught anything, they said a few Bass but while we were talking they caught a large White Bass or Hybrid, was hard to tell. It was almost dark, I had the X-Ride in the truck but just came on home. It was tempting to put on a Curly Tailed Grub and stay but I do like to watch Basketball!!
