Default Short trip with Mr S. 3/19/19

After the great day yesterday, I had high hopes for us today, but you know how fishing is in March with cold N winds blowing. We didn’t have the numbers today, but the quality of the fish was better over all and two bonus bass for the dinner table.

We had 6 keepers and half if them lacked 1/16 of an inch being 13” long and fat slabs. I had a Largemouth bass that was nearly 3 lbs and LeBron cause a spotted bass. All of our fish came off vertical structure and not a single fish off the docks that we fished today.

We saw people long line trolling today and lots of scattered fish, so I’m sure that was the way to go today, but we didn’t do it. Lolol.

Surface temp at the beginning was 52.9 degrees. 111,000 cfs was the current flow today and the Chick reservoir sitting on the bottom. But according to tva, the lake suppose to rise over a foot in the next two days.

Stump Bugs for me and Mr S was changing lures so often that I couldn’t keep up with his choices. Maybe he will chime in on this post. I’m going to Watts Bar tomorrow to fish with my brother in law and nephew. I am clueless as to what we will do. I’m not taking my boat. Lolol.

That is a nice mess of fish, and I usually keep all Spotted Bass I catch while fishing from the boat for Crappie or Gills. The limit on the Spots in Cherokee is 15 per person and I do my part to thin them out. That wind is definitely cold today, good catch though.

i don’t know why a green carp fisherman would get mad at me for taking a few home to eat. I don’t fish for them but if they are stupid enough to hit a crappie jig, then I’m getting them out of the gene pool. Lolol. LM bass is my wife’s favorite fish to eat and I do like them better than crappie. I don’t target LM bass. But I do take spotted bass out of the lake.

The bass guys get mad at me for pointing out how many bass they kill during their summer dog fight tournaments that go on every night of the week. If they cared about the great fishery that we have instead of a few dollars and bragging rights, they never would get angry with me for taking maybe 3-4 bass per month home to eat.
