Default Any advice for taking the kids this week? (Ft Loudoun)

Hi all, fairly new guy here.

I need some help, my boys 10 and 12 are on spring break this week, and I have taken off on Thursday and Friday.

I would like to go get on the water on Ft Loudoun on Thursday and give crappie a go.

Friday we are going to go the Expo and all for the Bassmaster Classic.

Here is where I need help, whenever I take the kids out, I can't seem to ever get them on fish and they loose interest very fast.

I know the forecast is supposed to be warm (high of 70), but it is supposed to be windy as well (15-20mph winds).

I would usually take them with minnows under slip bobbers, but I don't think that will work well with all the wind? My goal is to get us in some of the creeks right off of the main channel.

I was thinking we might try jigging some lures, but I don't have much experience with that...

What would your came plan be, and where would you start?

I know the lake well, but don't normally find the fish.

Any help is greatly appreciated and my boys will thank you with pictures!

    Jordan

PS: I also have a new Lowrance Elite 5 TI with downscan I will be installing this week, I hope this will improve my chances of finding the fish.

I haven’t been on the lake in over a month, so I am out of touch with what’s going on. I hope to get out this evening, tomorrow, or both. I’m thinking creeks and coves as a starting point, but gotta see for myself. Stay tuned!

If you are on Facebook, there is a group on there called Fort Loudon/Tellico Lake Fishing Report and Forum. Centers mostly on bass fishing and local tourneys, but we find it useful for water conditions and other tidbits of useful info, plus some crappie angling gets reported from time to time! We were having luck in Poland Creek before all this crazy weather, but no idea what is happening now. We will be getting out next week during Spring Break, and hope to post some pics!

Didn't get out today due to the wind, but I'm going to try again maybe on Sunday when hopefully there are less boat on the water!
