Looks good!
Jay and I picked a poor day to fish to start the week. 20 degrees colder today and wind from the north which got us both chilled before long. Jay trolls mostly because of his children who are developing a taste for fishing.
But he wanted to see some of my techniques of single pole fishing. Jay is no stranger with a rod in hand and casting as he used to be a musky fisherman from up north.
He wanted to see how to shoot a jig under docks, so after a short 101 lesson on the how to shoot a jig, we hit the first dock. Water was extremely trashy and a strong current there, so I took him to Chester Frost Park in order to get off of the main river current.
Water color in CFP was amazingly good. Nice green color and the wind, although cold, wasn’t too much for brushpile fishing and checking out underwater islands or humps as we like to call them. We saw lots of boats in that bay and people were catching crappie using the trolling method. We chose not to do that as Jay can troll anytime and I don’t enjoy it one bit.
My biggest crappie today today was a fat 13” fish and a couple more nice ones as well. I landed a 8.5” Warmouth bass that had a golf ball size belly on her, so after pics and measurements, she was released. I hooked a very large bass under one dock that made a quick run just under the surface of the water and it looked like a submarine. It took off the hook, but we both got really good looks at it. I estimated it in the 4-5 lb range, but Jay said 6 or better. It was long and strong. Grin.
I showed Jay how I fish bluffs, brushpiles, deep ponds, docks, and that is about it. Water temp 51.7 and 174,000 cfs current in the river. We quit when the unexpected rain began to fall.
I had a great time. I would have liked to catch a few more but it is fun to fish for real once in a while instead of letting the boat catch them all. Let's do it again in a couple weeks. The weather and water should be better by then.
Thanks for the trip. JayW

Judging by some of the other Chick reports you guys faired well. At least people are getting out there and fishing and reporting. Same conditions up here, stained water but the surface temps fell about 4-5 degrees from last week, making it even tougher. Better days are ahead, just keep after them, and that sure was a pretty Warmouth, never caught one that big!!

DK you aren't kidding that the river is rollin' judging from the eddy rollin' behind you in that one pic.
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
