    Default Old Hickory

Can anyone give me some information on lake level summer verse winter, how much all this rain colors the water etc. I'm a Tn boy living in Ky due to job but close enough to fish Old Hickory if I just had some history of water level, and if crappie fishing is any good.

    Thanks

Here are two sources for info on Old Hickory. One is from the Corps of Engineers Website, Access Denied . The other is from a Sticky above, TVA Reservoir Information found at the top of the TN page. Looks like the lake only fluctuates about 5 feet. The locals will have more information and will hopefully chime in.

OH does fluctuate but nothing like winter pool and summer pools at other lakes around here. There are a lot of docks on OH, I would recommend either shooting or tight lining around all sides of the docks, Drakes and Cedar creeks are a good starting places. Next I would target lay downs. OH has a good crappie population but I don't prefer it for spider rigging, long lining or pulling cranks, Percy Priest would be my preference for those methods of crappie fishing. That's not to say you won't catch fish using those methods, I've just put more fish in the boat fishing docks and lay downs.

    Good luck,

Thanks a million guy's for the feed back, it helps a lot. I hope someone will chime in on the lake color, the local lakes around Bowling Green are like mud with all this rain we've had.
    Thanks again

OH is muddy and up a couple feet at Bledsow creek. Going to be a week if we don't get more rain (which we are) to get back in shape. Gotta love spring fishing.

Thanks Ray, looks like we are all having a hard time wetting a line.

OH is muddy....and it will be muddy when it clears up.....LOL. OH has some good crappie for sure.....but as rayzor said I wouldn’t be spider rigging in it. Cast and retrieve is the way to go there. If you go you really should have a good map. If you don’t watch it in OH you can tear up a boat real quick. The lake will clear up some but it stays pretty stained all year long.
