Default Norris Lake last week of March

Friends offered us their place to stay at. Was wondering any suggestions on any good areas to find crappie? Near the Indian Creek area. Thanks for any info

Not sure of the area which you are talking about. Norris is a long narrow deep clear lake with several large creek arms. I do not remember an Indian Creek, maybe an area near Indian River Marina? If so target lay downs on the steep banks in medium to shallow depths depending on water temps. On a side note the Red-ear (Shellcracker) should be starting to stage on the gravel points to start their Spring time business. Take some worms in addition to the normal clear water Crappie offerings. Good luck.

The Marina is probably the closest place to launch. I do not know if there is a launch fee or not, most of them do. There is a free launch up at Campbell County Park (Lonas Young Park), north of the Marina. Not sure where water levels will be due to Spring rains and how TVA will be managing the water. Last year we had early rains and the lake was up in the parking lots and yards. I would contact the marina for water levels and keep an eye on TVA.gov website. Good luck, Norris is a beautiful lake!

Not to hijack the thread, but is Norris a good crappie lake? I’ve never fished the lake, and never see crappie reports from it. Now the tail waters, love the trout fishing on the Clinch!

Norris is a rough nut to crack. Deep and clear highland reservoir that fluctuates about 20ft per year. I used to fish it regularly for walleye in the early spring and always had my Crappie gear with me. The population of Crappie was never great, not a lot of good spawning territory, and they ended up reducing the creel limit to 10 fish. I live about 45 minutes away, and to pull the boat that far for 10 keepers, bypassing Cherokee, has not happened much over the last few years. When I did fish over there I mainly targeted lay downs in the upper end of the Clinch. The lake is known for Stripers and Smallmouth.
