Default Out of state trip to old hickory lake

A buddy and I from Ohio are planning to go to old hickory and fish for a few days around the March 23rd weekend. We are newer to crappie fishing and just trying out new lakes. We did Kentucky lake last year and had fun and caught some fish but it was tough conditions around the same time of year. We are set up to spider rig also.
Couple questions, where is a good place to stay with boat docks and secure locker storage ?

What stage are the fish typically in spawn wise? We did best at Kentucky in 10-12 foot of water at the mouth of bay.

Any general areas better than others to catch fish ? Not looking for exact areas, just maybe creek channels or coves in general.

Looks to be a ton of docks around. Is dock shooting a good method there?

Thanks for any help or tips. We are used to fishing shallow , deep spot is 8-10 foot, man made lakes around west central Ohio and these dammed up waters with ever changing water levels are a new challenge but fun to fish and learn. We are usually single pole cork and jig fisherman and getting a chance to spider rig is a nice change up as well as the great scenery of these southern lakes.

I know nothing about that lake, but maybe by commenting it will go back to top.

Shooting docks is good......but the spawn may be going on by that time. I’m a cast and retrieve guy. You need a good map to be on Old Hickory. It is shallow and full of stumps at a lot of places. You can run aground real quick if you don’t know the lake. Lots of crappie in the Bledsoe Creek area.....plus lot of other spots but I’m more familiar with Bledsoe Creek. Put in at the Ziegler’s Fort Road boat ramp. Lots of crappie houses in that area. Then if you have si sonar look around out from the Bledsoe Creek ramp and you will find the structure there for crappie. It gets deep in front of that ramp...lot of crappie caught there.

    Regards

Great info. We do have side imaging and we usually do the navionics maps so should be pretty good I hope.
It is tough to find any info on this lake on the internet.

Just looking for an update.we are going there from 4/10-4/13. Just seeing if anyone has been fishing there recently and doing any good. We have been looking over a map we got of the lake and the navionics site. Been marking a bunch of spots to look at.
What stage is the spawn in there?
    Water temps?
Any creeks/bays that may be productive. Not looking for gps coordinates , just depths or areas to try.
    Is dock shooting productive now?
Any info will be really appreciated.

Xraytrapper how did you do on Old Hickory. Been thinking about trying it in the fall and don't see much info on the lake.

Your right , info is next to impossible to find about this lake. Just not sure if no one fishes it from this site or unwilling to share info. And really nothing I could find on internet either.
We caught around 35 keepers , most were in the 12” size. Plenty of small bluegill to grab the tails of your plastics also. Lost about a whole day due to the wind. But we figured them out the last day or so. I would think the next week should be awesome there. Seemed like most fish we caught still out little deeper and females full of eggs yet. Males were colored up pretty though. Name: IMG_0923.jpg
