    Default Pulling cranks this late?

This is my first full year learning to crappie fish, so just wondering how late in the year you crappie veterans find pulling cranks effective. I know the obvious answer is "until they stop biting!" but I don't want to be trying 60 degree water if you find they normally shut off at 70 degrees. I don't know many brush piles so I plan to go to pushing jigs once the crankbait bite is gone. Thanks in advance for any advice!

We have caught fish in 38 degree water on flicker shads before
We sometimes longline them with jigs in the winter. Flicker shads have
good action going around .8 mph. But we usually quit trolling crankbaits
when the water gets in the 60s

Ya, same as the other guys...60F seems to be a good starting temp in the spring and ending temp in the fall. In colder temps, slow pulling or pushing jigs works better for me. BUT, I have read articles from guys who say they pull cranks all year long. May all depend on the habits of the fish in the water you're fishing.

I tend to consider starting cranks in spring when surface temps get to 55 or so and rising slowly and water isn’t too muddy. I’ll start out at 1.2-1.4 speeds.

In the fall, if temps are falling quickly, I’ll start slowing my speed down when surface temps are 60 or so. If that isn’t productive I’ll switch over completely to power-trolling or pushing. Once temps fall thru low50s, I’ll go to longlining.

We love pulling cranks , lots of action in summer. but I have more success on the big 4 spiderrigging minnows this time of year . Why is that you think ? The Kentucky lake fish love the cranks . What am I doing wrong ?
