Default Crappie fishing with Mr S 103118

LeBron, aka Mr S, is on vacation for a few days before going to the day shift after months on the night shift. He is a happy camper now, and was more than willing to occupy my back seat today.

i scouted the lower end of the lake yesterday without finding much to shout about, so today’s plan was to fish the middle portion of Chickamauga lake under docks. We had a fine 1/2 day of fishing. Fish weren’t under every dock, but there were numbers of fish under the docks that did have fish on them.

We fished mainly under docks that had 8-10 feet on the front of them. After fishing with different colors early, the fish seemed to zero in on Blue Grass 2” Bass Assassin plastics with a white powder painted jig head in 1/24 oz weights. I stuck with that color after learning that the crappie loved it today, especially if it had Slab Sauce on it.

Water surface temp today was 66.1 when we finished early afternoon. Wind was from the Southwest and 8-10 mph. Tva was pulling a lot of water so we stayed out of the main river and only fished sloughs. I don’t normally fish docks much anymore, so it was an enjoyable change for me today. We caught fish under docks that I never fished before. Grin. Who said that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? We also had one Largemouth bass and one yellow bass that was almost TARP size. 10 3/5”.

Dock shooting up here in East TN is not an option this time of year. I wished it were, as it is a fun way to spend the day. Those are some nice looking fish, and finding new spots is always a bonus. One question, do you have side imaging on your electronics, and if you do did you use them to check the docks before fishing them?

i do have side imaging on my Lowrance Elite 7. I use it some, but not all the time. I catch crappie at times under docks that don’t always show fish.

Those are some good looking crappie. Are those phone pics or are you carrying a camera? The pics are great.
    Congrats on a good day!

Heck, you are beating me now on off shore structure and I won’t have a chance with you at dock shooting, so I’ll just have to suck it up and take my licking. Grin. Next time it will be docks only. Looking forward to it.
