Default Tried spider rigging on old hickory today

Hey guys I moved near old hickory 4 months ago. I tried pulling cranks 4 different trips. First trip I caught two nice 14’ crappie, Bass, channel cats, white bass, small strips. The other three trips I caught everything above but no crappie. Today I switched over and tried spider rigging for the first time. Caught two nice shell crackers and a small channel cat, but no crappie. I will say it was to windy and way to much boat traffic this morning and today to really say spider rigging didn’t work.

Can anybody give me any tips on spyder rigging old hickory?

Today I used Capps and cole man half ounce rigs, and rod runner type jigs. With half ounce weight 18” above the rigs. Tried my best to troll at .3-.5 mph but almost impossible to maintain with wind and boat waves.

Went to areas on my navonics map today that said submerged timber but saw very very little structure on my side and down scan.

Any tips of spider rigging or trolling cranks would be much appreciated on old hickory. I like to troll so not real interested in vertical jigging.

    Thanks in advance!

Spiderrigging you need to fish structure unless there suspended or scattered.I personally like 3/4-1oz with just one jug 90% of the time .Usually start out with a different color on every pole, somwtimes i tip my jigs with minnows.I also like to spay scent in all my jigs the night before and let it soak in,that is the baits i have on my poles.Dont be scared to jig though, when theres alot of boat traffic or windy single pole jigging does better in my opinion.Have you shot any docks, hear some locals do it,might give that a try even.

OH is a tough nut to crack trolling or spider rigging. This time of the year is tough for crappie on OH, the water needs to cool some. Like Blueball said, OH is more a dock shooting lake. If you fish Barton's and Spring creeks docks you can pick up some crappie, shooting or tight lining with a 10 foot pole in the slips. A couple weeks ago I trolled cranks around the dam area and caught six nice crappie along with drum and catfish before the lake lice came out, but it was tough. Docks and lay downs on the main lake will pick up in September, fish will migrate back into the tributaries into first part of November. I would definitely get a note pad and start a log noting water and weather conditions, docks and lay downs that hold fish, how you caught the fish, this will help when your putting together a game plan. As a side note, I've done better spider rigging, long line trolling and cranking on Percy Priest.

    Good luck,

    Ray
