Summer Crappie
New to forum...long time reader...first time post. I guess I'm like a lot of crappie fisherman. Spring fishing for slabs and pretty much over. I decided to fish for crappie in their summer haunts. This week I fished 20-25 feet of water on the Chick. I caught seven (7) keepers vertical jigging minnows, BG Slab Slayer and Baby Shad. I double rigged the jigs with 1/8 and 1/16 oz jig heads. At times it was tough to keep line/jigs vertical because of wind and current. Any tips would be appreciated.
Additionally, I would like to try my hand at trolling crank baits. I have numerous Bandit 300's and purchased a line counter reel. Apparently Pico lures are very popular. I would appreciate any suggestions, tips and techniques. Not asking for your honey hole location.

Good report. Didn’t you know that crappie don’t bite except when they spawn? ����. I would advise changing colors often if you are not getting bit on your favorite lure. Look for drop offs that top out at 15 feet and drop to 40 more or less.

Put a 3/8 or 1/2 oz bell sinker on the bottom. Tie one Jig 18-24” up and the next about 2’ above that. Then just bump the bottom. You might be better off just using minnow hooks instead of a jig head. It’ll stand off a little better and it’ll straighten if you get hung.

Thanks "tcounty" I appreciate your response and tip. I had been reading on-line and other forums about using this technique. I will try it and see how it works. As previously stated I often wondered how in the wide world of sports do you get tiny jigs with tiny jig heads down in deep water. I will also try loop knots next trip. Thanks again.
