Default Kentucky Lake Clifton Area Labor Day Weekend

Me and Dad have a trip planned down in Tennessee over Labor day weekend to pre-fish for the Crappie USA classic. Not familiar with the Clifton area, fished much further north last year. Have a few questions. What will the predicted rain on Thursday and Friday do to the river down there? Will it be a mess and unfishable? Also if anyone has any information on the area I and would like to share feel free to PM me. Planned on fishing Saturday-Monday.

Heavy rain expected in the next few days. This shouldn't affect the river level too much, but it will most likely cause the feeder creeks to rise and be very muddy. In my experience the creek mouths and last mile or less before they empty into the river is where the major of crappie are caught. Depending on Tva generation schedule, the river itself can be fairly swift and a little tricky to fish. I have caught good numbers and some quality fish in the Clifton area but primarily in winter/early spring. Majority of the river bank is sandy shallow areas or deeper rock bluffs. There are areas with some large trees that were washed in during floods, however the current can make it difficult to fish them properly. If you are looking for a new area to fish I would suggest going downstream 30 to 40 miles and try the creeks around the area where the highway crosses the river. Several good creeks fairly close to one another, however this might not be the best wkend to try due to the rain and holiday.

If somebody lives near the Tennessee River and can give me an update on what the creeks and river look like it would be appreciated. Heard they may have got up to 6 inches of rain in spots down there? We still plan on coming down this weekend but I know what 6 inches of rain would do to our local lakes. Does anyone think it will still be fishable Saturday?

It will be fishable but probably not worth the effort. I would spend my time side-scanning and marking spots I would consider fishing later.

If you pull cranks, check out the mouths of bays and creeks for structure in 15-25 feet of water. The water temps will drop several degrees and the migration back into the bays should be on in that area also.

You might want to check the regulations on how far south you are allowed to fish in that tournament. I believe I 40 bridge is as far south as you are allowed.
