Default Is my neighbor right? + a fish report

A feller at Country Junction Store told us (biillbob inc) that he suspects the Asian carp are the problem with the crappie. Things have gone to pot since these critters moved in.

Usually this time of the year fish are spawning all around our area. However, the last three years has produced very little action. We usually catch good fish around our dock, but not the past few years. I saw a lot of large fish hanging near bottom in the West Sandy and we also spotted a dead Asian carp.

Some of the fish we caught had eggs, but their bellies were not swollen and the eggs were somewhat bloody. The males tails showed no signs of nesting. We caught a few dandy males.

We fished from West Sandy to Swamp Creek to New Hope and spots in between. We picked up a fish here and there, but had no major onslaught. When we caught a fish, we circled back and made another pass looking for stragglers. The fish seemed to like the 7 foot depth. The water temp was over 70 degrees. The first day we single poled the brush with limited results. On day two and three we pulled and pushed jigs and roadrunners with better results. We did a lot of riding.

The fish were stubborn but we still had a large time.

I saw ya out on the pondtoon Friday I think it was. Jus across the water from your ponderosa.
I agree the bite seems way off but still enjoyed the time out on the water!!
I never found a spot that I caught more than 3 fish in either.
Atleast the smaller fish gave me a break this weekend.
I need to stop in and holler at ya sometime.

Yes, that was us. We picked up a few there and moved on. Fish are scattered. We covered a lot of water.

Jamie, I believe the fish will be spawning deeper again. The water is clear and the water temp has zoomed into 70s. I don't believe the spawn is on yet in full force. MHO.

Tom, the carp may not be 100% responsible, but I think they are forcing the crappie/gills/redears to spawn deeper and stay out of their traditional spawning areas in shallow water. Lots of the 3-4 foot deep areas we were catching fish pulling planer boards 2-3 weeks ago are now wall-to-wall carp. There are tons of dead silver carp up this way and whatever is killing them I hope it keeps going.

How cool is that, I did not know Billbob started his own company called Billbob Inc. I suppose he's gonna want royalties on the Billbob Koozies now! doh

tons of them floating around eagle creek area also. Dont know whats killing them just glad something is. We been catching good fish this way. I do believe they are spawning in deeper cover with the clear water. lots of big males and females coming out the 9 ft zone on wood cover. Ran down to Big Sandy area Thursday and got into a ton of little ones, I mean a ton of them. Came back north that afternoon and went back to catching quality fish again in mid range depths.

I skipped some areas where I know a "groupe de poissons" hang out. We stayed out for 3 1/2 to 4 hours each day. That's enough time for a couple of old fellers. I mentioned Eagle Creek to Billbob, but that's just too far a ride in my Pondtoon.
