My experience is when it gets hot they will die. Especially when the slime builds up. I live in Texas and have several stock tanks I put minnows in. Winter is ok but summer is the end of it.
I've got a question for you folks that buy minnows by the pound.
I have a stock water tank that I water my cows from. Just a a guess it's probably 150 gallon.
I've been thinking about getting a pound of minnows and putting in there.
New water would be added to the tank several times of day especially when it's hot as the cows drink.
I'm thinking with new water being added that the water would stay cool enough to keep minnows in even during the hot summer months.
As the cows drank the minnows would go to the bottom so I doubt any would be drank by the cows.
Algie grows on the side of the tank so the minnows would have that to eat. A{A pound of minnows would last me for awhile}
There;s no way I could run a air line to the tank but with it being out in the open and new water being added I wouldn't think I would need one.
The tank is also in the shade which would help keep the water temp down.
I've been wrestling with this idea for some time. With t he price of gas and minnows I thought I'd give it a try.
Any Thoughts????

beagler, id get a few dozen and drop em in the tank and see how they do. if you dont wanna keep no more than a pound on hand, you could make you a pretty good holding tank out of a 55 gallon drum using a yard pond pump from lowes for aeration do you a good job.
