Default Excessive but man it works great

Well, I tried something a bit crazy and excessive but it sure does work well. I wanted Active Target on my jet boat so I could use it for more than just the fishing the rivers, I wanted to make it very effective for Crappie in the lakes too.

I started with a pole mount but never did like using it. When livescoping open water crappie in the winter it was extremely difficult to keep the trolling motor and pole both pointed the right way and work a rod. I have Active Target on my trolling motor on my Bay Boat and strongly preferred that set up. But my trolling motor on my Jet boat was an old Ulterra that I took off the Bay Boat. I really liked it for launching by myself and being able to stow while I’m at the helm in rivers with a lot of rocks. But I finally decided that I would go to an Ultrex so I could mount the Active Target to the foot which you can’t do on an Ulterra. But my biggest problem with Active Target on the foot is you can’t keep it on a target when the boat was on spot lock so it would not be good for fishing deep brush in the summer.

It hit me one day that with the big square front end on that boat, I had room for both trolling motors. That lets me use my foot control on the Ultrex to scan around for brush and fish when not on spot lock. Then I can hit spot lock on the Ulterra and the Ultrex becomes a fancy pole mount. I can point it at a brush pile and hit the “N” button and it keeps the Active Target pointed at the brush no matter how the boat swings in the wind. I tested it out on Greenwood this morning fishing deep brush and it was fantastic. Fishing was great by the way, 17 to 22 foot piles. Name: IMG_3056.jpg
