Default Under the light in the Broad

I spent about 20 minutes on the dock on Friday night total caught was 3. Two were big enough to keep but all were released.
Spent 30 min on Saturday night and caught 6. 5 of those were around a pound each and included a magnolia. I put all those back too. I was surprised as to how fast they wanted the jigs moving to get bit.

Good job. Wonder how this rain and cold will effect them now?

I feel sure the cold snap will put the brakes on them for a few days. The rain should put some color in the water which will warm a little quicker than the clearer parts and that color is where where I’d be fishing if I were able.

I saw Broad coming in muddy this morning. I'm sure that will help some of the upper end creeks once the lake settles again. Water temps this morning were back in the upper 50's again after the cold snap we've had so far and the fish were slow to bite. The next 3 nights at freezing temps will push that surface temp even lower....probably low to mid 50's. It's gonna be interesting for sure.

Have you gotten many hybrids coming to the lights? I bet in about 3 weeks it starts to load up with them.

Believe it or not, I have never caught a hybrid while crappie fishing on the dock. At times when the river (a few hundred yards away) is full of them, you'd think they'd come back in the cove but they don't?
If they do, they just don't like Bobby Garlands......

That's wild that they don't come into the light as thick as the hybrids get in the Broad. We usually throw small bucktails to the lights for stripers and hybrids. But I have no doubt they would crush a Bobby Garland if they were there. There are a couple of lights on Murray where I've caught bass but I've never caught a striper and they are all further back in coves as well. And just like you are saying, these lights are in creeks that stack up with stripers. One of them has another light about 200 yards away that's one of my best lights, but it's in a little deeper water and I think that helps.
