Default Got a nice Jon boat

Just got this little 1436 War Eagle with a 25 merc so I can get back in the swamp at Santee. Took it out yesterday and caught a bunch of bream. Life is good.

Been a lot of fish caught in this ole Jonboat. Way more than in my Ranger. It was a boat my dad used to pre fish for bass tournaments. Most other fishermen didn’t paid much attention to him and the spots he was fishing. It is a under the radar boat!! Still miss it, my buddy has it so I occasionally get to fish it. I could fish all day on 1-2 gallons of gas. Only reason I upgraded was to preserve my back!! The flat bottom was brutal on white cap days. When I see Jonboats, I envy and respect you. Go Get Em!!

I started out with a jon boat I called a "pond" jon boat.....being it was so narrow and you had to almost be an acrobat to stand in it. Whoa!(I ran all over that boat when I was a young man and luckily NEVER fell out of it!) I had a trailer for it but sometimes I'd just slide it into the back of a pickup so I could slide it down the banks on the river. Here where I live theres a running river that is now one of the very few in Ga that doesnt have a dam on it and it empties into Clark Hill Lake.

I was a catfisherman back in those days and I caught ALOT of catfish out of that thing...in both the running river and the lake. It had a 6 hp Johnson that I trusted TOTALLY! I fished out of that thing for YEARS. After the kids came along I bought a boat I wasnt so afraid of them falling out of. But even to this day and at 65 years old I still think about owning another narrow "pond" jon boat just to do a little leasure catfishing in the river again. One thing for sure when in the river you never had to worry about a boat flying past you creating a wake be enough to splash you up onto the bank. All youll see in there is maybe another jon boat like I had, people floating on tubes, or an ocassional canoe. And it wasnt ever that hard getting enough of those small mudcats to cook for a dinner every once in awhile either.

Your boat brought back some nice memories. I hope you and your boat creates alot of good memories for you and yours. Congrats on the new boat.
