CBNC, do you catch some of those big catfish where you locate the perch? Just wondering if they hang out around their food like the crappie do......

Craig, they are in Rock Hill. Actually fat boy's is the old Jacksons cafeteria on HWY 901 and TJ is the old Buckaroo's hot dog place on HWY 901/ Heckle Blvd. Both are pretty good eating places. Good prices too! Come and join in with us when it gets set up.

This is an interesting post. I do a ton of brushpile fishing on Clarks Hill and just never find the white perch in/on the brush, only crappie. I've found some big schools in the vicinity, but it seems they avoid cover. Love the picture of that jumbo perch. If they all got that size, nobody would mind catching them! And most of the people I take fishing keep about every one they catch, and a lot of folks say they're just as good eating as the crappie. So put me in the camp of those who love perch, because it just might be the perfect kids' fish. (Kids of any age!)

You are right about perch not inside brush piles but I have seen them awful close and caught some . Yes places where perch are infested like Big Allison and this time of year they are heading out to main channel and mouths. Around Brush piles where I see a zillion fish on livescope I will drop a small spoon above and around brush piles and catch perch. They are small for sure. As they are heading out if they past a brushpile they will hang around some. Hopefully perch will soon do their mid to late summer pattern and stop harassing the crappie.

I have to say the pic of the large perch I got from internet was having fun because the perch are running small. Please forgive me. Also to stress the point to take our kids fishing. Everyone of my children and grandchildren have best memories together fishing.

Perch are good eaters, not up to par with crappie but very close! That's a big perch and those that size will put up a heck of a fight.
