Wife was busy this morning. kids were gone, I had nothing to do so decided to fish.............and am GLAD I did!
The temps were mild at 71* this morning and no winds. Surface temp knocking on 80* now. Only a hand full of bass guys going by, and going by, and going by, etc. Man! Once they get somewhere they need to fish awhile instead of seeing how high a rooster tail their motors can throw or how fast they can go by you. Oh! And did I mention how they like to go between you and the bank instead of using the other 3/4 of the lake? Geez........
Anyway, back to crappie fishing. Lines in the water at 6:40AM. Slick water and the fish didnt wait long before they started biting...
Got pretty humid out there early today with all the cloud cover. Even sprinkled on me for like 10 seconds. Geez....I was hoping I was fixing to get soaking wet so I could cool off some. Well, that didnt happen. So....my little electric fan (from an old school bus) got it's workout this morning...
Fished on until 11AM fishing mostly clear water about 20' deep. Fish were still biting after I started taking in lines but I was sweating bullets by then so it was time for me to go. Besides, I had promised the wife we'd catch a late lunch/early supper at the BBQ place today so I didn't want to loose the rest of my kitchen passes. Here's the tally from today. All were caught long lining curly tail jigs. Took a pic of the two counters. One is used for total catch and the other is for what went into the live wells...
Caught two more fish while getting lines in and rods put up so total was 75 fish caught and 29 in the 'wells. I done got hooked again on fish-on-the-bone so here are those fish I kept for me...
...and these are the rest of the fish that went under the fillet knife...
It was a GREAT morning of fishing. I only seen about 6 bass boats and maybe 2 other crappie fishing boats. The water is probably gonna be heating up fast so get some lines wet guys while theyre still biting. Oh! Forgot to mention this....even had a water skier going between a couple of us crappie fishermen today. Oh well, after all, it's their time of the year so I aint complaining too much. Only 4 more months and the lakes will be our again. Until then you just gotta go early and quit early unless nightstalking is your game. Regardless, go catch you some!

It is a mess when a striper or gar hits unless I can break it off IMMEDIATELY before all heck breaks loose and tangles everywhere. I can fish 14 by myself or 12 if somebody goes with me. I do get tangles like everybody else that longlines though. I think that's just the nature of the beast.HA!

I can do 17 on the pontoon by myself if i don't have to do any tight turns and don't hook anything but Crappie.
Thanks for the report. I spend a little time on the pond here at the KOA in Milton W Va, nothing was biting, did have a 25-30" catfish boil in front of me a couple times. It's a catch and release pond.
Headed to Michigan next hope to find some slabs while there.
Another great morning on the water. Love that slick water and those livewell shots! Keep after them.
Hooking up every chance I get!gabowman LIKED above post
