    Default Mid-Summer Report

Hope everyone is doing well and dealing with the heat! It's been a scorcher the last few weeks. I've been fortunate enough to find some time for a little fishing over the last month. Even with the heat, the fish have been cooperating, but it does seem to be slowing down a little. Patience has been the key to success for me and if you're willing to sweat, there are still some quality fish biting. I've not fished often and all trips have been early morning until about 10 AM before the crazies get out and about. When I start seeing jet skis, I start reeling it in LOL

I've fished with several different family members and all trips have been fishing brush in 20-30 FOW with both jigs and minnows. Lively minnows have outshined the jigs, but I have caught a few "bonus" fish jigging. It's been fun and rewarding, but I may be out of commission for a little while due to some mechanical issues with my boat. It seems as though I may have run my Yamaha hot and blown the head gaskets....I'm praying that I caught it in time before too much damage was done. She's still running smooth up until about 4000 rpms when it begins to lose power. Only time will tell! Hopefully I can get back on the water a time or two before deer season gets here. It won't be long before I'm perched up in a tree and sweating LOL

Here's a few pics and a bonus pic of some snapper we caught in Florida the other week. I've never done much saltwater fishing, but that was a nice change of pace.

    Tight Lines to all!!

Derek glad you and the family are doing okay. It sure is hot and I am waiting on fall. You have made some good catches on the crappie thanks for sharing it with us old timers. I hope you did not hurt your motor to bad.

What are you doing to keep your minnows alive this time of year ?They seem to die as soon as they hit the water.Lake water is so hot

I just keep them in a Frabil minnow bucket with an aerator on them. I try to keep the water cool and occasionally use a little ice but the trick is to not get it so cool that they get shocked when the hit the warm lake. I have a lot die while on the hook, but I just work to change and check baits often. It’s a chore this time of year, no doubt.
