    A thought for all
Get an air horn and have it beside you where you fish , front and back

That report really makes you stop and think how doing what we all love can turn in an instant from pure joy to potential tragedy. I too thank God you weren't hurt, and that your pup came through unscathed.

And Brett, your suggestion of an air horn is excellent. I plan on buying one for my next trip.

I bought 2 red plastic whistles with lanyards at Academy for about 2 bucks each. Thay are attached to our PFDs, which we are always wearing. Easy to reach without fumbling, and there if we go in.

I keep thinking a flare pistol would be better.

I actually have a whistle attached to the lanyard that my trolling motor controller is on. However, when I reached down to grab it, somehow I missed it and only ended up grabbing my shirt. I didnt have time at that point to look down and grab at it again it was too late and he was almost on top of us at that point.
In regards to the suggestion on the floor dive instead of going into the water. Its hard to say. It maybe something to think about if its winter time and risk of hypothermia, or if you're fishing shallow, 6 FOW, or less. The other side to that is also, if his motor and prop would've came into the boat then you're basically laying in a fiberglass food processor.
Thanks again everyone for the thoughts, prayers and kind words.
