Anyone been crappie fishing at Wateree lately? We’re hopefully going to try tomorrow. Low winds day before some rain rolls in.

We went! Ohhh, bad start. Never put in at this landing before, (Clearwater Cove, next to Shaw AFB Landing which is closed) the water level is pretty low, so to get the pontoon off the trailer, we had to back in pretty far. The ramp drops off, so the trailer tires dropped over the ramp ledge and it’s HUNG! No four wheel drive was gonna pull it out. Well, God sends angels to help folks like us, enter Charles Catoe... he fishes out of there most everyday. He’s seen this before. He’s got a big treble hook on a rope. We hook the trailer from the backend from the boat and pull backwards while Evelyn in the truck pulls forward. After straightening two of the hooks it’s finally out. Off we go to spot #1. No takers. Spot #2 Evelyn lands a nice one right quick. Couple minutes later, I get a nice one. Then nothing.
Winds picking up. Trolling motor goes haywire, time to head home. Back at the landing a bass tournament is winding down and boats are all around. I finally get a spot to park the pontoon and go get the truck. Get backed in carefully so as not go too far. Go to get boat and it’s swung around and stuck on the rip rap rocks. So I get to go wading. Rocks are slick as can be, almost busted my south side. Trying to push boat off rocks and wrenched my back, but got boat free. Finally get loaded up and headed home.
Definitely not a dream fishing trip, but one we’ll Never forget. We’re chuckling about it today. Those will be some tasty filets for supper. GOD is good, ALL the time.

Hate that happened to you. If you use the ramp again there’s yellow spray paint on the dock that marks the end of the ramp.

Yes, we learned that as well. Is that common at other ramps?
