Default Took the boys out -Murray

Went out yesterday to fish for bass. We mainly fished up lake areas near the house. Lake was still really busy , even with ramps closed. We caught a bunch of bass and 1 striper. Couple of really nice fish in the 4lb range too. Hopefully the Wuhan will leave soon and life will get back to normal.

I got caught up in the Bass fever in the 70s. Even charted one of the still viable Bass Clubs in Columbia. Got burned out on the cutthroat competition and snack talking so i quit bass and moved to simpler things.
Curious now as to how you pattern and fish for LM Bass. Only ones I' ve caught were incidental. I used to be a crank bait fiend but not sure whats effective today.
Mind sharing your general method to catch them?

I employ so many different ways to catch them, it can be mind boggling sometimes. I used to be a hardcore tournament guy, now i rarely fish bass tournaments at all. However, i still love to bass fish more than any other species. Right now, a lot of the bass are in late pre-spawn and spawning mode. They are on secondary points and backs of coves and pockets. Lots of small fish are right up on the bank, with the bigger females 5-8' under docks and on wood cover. We caught them on square bill shallow diving crankbaits and swimbaits mostly. A few did come on a senko fished wacky style also. It wont be long until the fluke and topwater bites cranks up. Then everyone will be running all over the points , climbing on top of each other trying to get there first. It can be the frustrating time of year to deal with heavy fishing pressure, but it can be super fun if you are lucky enough to stop on the right point at the right time! I like to catch crappie too, but i havent gotten the hang of it as good as i had hoped by now. Seems simple, but rarely is. I have only gotten a limit of crappie a few times in the last few years.

Thanks for the info. When people start using terms like wacky, wacho, senko and fluke I have to use Google to know what they mean. Told you I was out of date. I may give it a shot if I ever get back on the water.

Hopefully you do get back out soon! If you throw the fluke, you will catch some striper on points too.

Yes! One had a humpback and the other had a v-back. lol. Weird weekend. I had never seen a soft shell turtle before. There was a huge one lying on top of a dock. As we were checking it out, a piebald deer walked out of the woods onto the shoreline. Very rare for both, and we saw them at the same time!
