Never tried it, that's reason I am asking. Hope you caught a bunch. You were in shallow water or deeper?

I went to Mississippi last year to there crank fest and pulled cranks for 3 days. It is a lot of fun and Mississippi has a 12 in size limit on Grenada lake. Supposedly white crappie suspend in more open water that is why you catch fewer black crappie. Black crappie can be caught with cranks but usually not in numbers. We fished 15 to 20 ft of water at 1.5 mpg at 10 ft deep. I used pico cranks. Hopefully going back to Mississippi this year in august.
