    Default Lake Murray Pitiful Report

Tried Murray for Crappie this weekend a bit. Sunday morning we were out until about 1030 when the rain started. Long lined a big portion of Buffalo creek. Water clarity was decent and 53 degrees. The creek is loaded with bait. Caught zero crappie, two striper and two bass. Saw several other guys out as well. Some tightlining and some longline.
Yesterday we moved up the little river arm. Long lined again til about 1230. Ended up with 4 crappie and two large striper. Kept one of the striper for good measure, since it tangled up all our lines! Did not get on much , i assume clarity may have been the biggest issue. Lots of crappie were caught yesterday, as i saw plenty of pics to prove it on the facebook. If i could do yesterday over, i would have tried down the lake in a different creek.

Anyone try Murray that may have some insight? I longline with 6lb test and 1/16 jigheads. Half were roadrunners and half were round ball heads. So, not sure if its a rigging issue, or just not around many feeding fish. Didn't notice anyone else catching in the area i was in, but i dont have binoculars with me usually. lol

Kenny with the way the water looks in Rocky creek you probably should have gone down lake to hollow creek or horse creek and tried them. Macedonia may be another good place to look. Sorry I am not able to help much as I am having a hard time getting over my heart problems. Hope to get on the water soon.

Kenny, not sure what water temp is but may be a bit early for up in the creeks, might need to tightline deeper structure, but i would guess the spring transition should be near, not that i know much, i am halfway across the US now. Were you marking any crappie? What depth in the water column? Cant wait for march here for crappie and walleye myself. No doubt you will figure out the pattern if you fish crappie enough there. Always mark good structure when your out. I did the same on wateree and eventually learned where to fish and when.

Also, 1/16 is probably only getting 8-12 ft deep depending on speed and casting distance.
Put a 1/16 split shot on half the rods.
How deep was the majority of bait?

Most of the bait is in the 8-10' range in about 20' typically. The muddy water is loaded up with bait right now out to about 25 feet. I was just fishing around the bait, didnt really try to find schools of crappie as i was hoping they were in the bait balls. The few i caught Sunday were in the 20' range. I agree my jigs arent running more that 7-8' most likely. Water temps are up to 54 in Little Saluda and Buffalo right now. Temps will probably drop a few degrees with the cold front coming in tomorrow. Next trip i will be trying extra weight. Also, I have ordered some minnow head jigs to pull. I assume they run a tad deeper. Tim, hope you are doing good out in CO!
