    Default Lake Wylie Retirement

How would you all rate the Lake Wylie area for retirement? I plan on checking the area out, but have never been there. Currently have a place at Kerr that I love, but it is a little to remote for healthcare purposes as I age. Please let me know your thought. Thanks

From personal experience the Gastonia area hospitals are outstanding. My son ended up living in Boiling Springs, NC so don't know about living in Gastonia. I can tell you living in the little college town of Boiling Springs is wonderful but its a tiny country town. His wife is the Medical Director of the PA program at Gardner Webb University.

I like the Lake but the area can be a little tuff to get around. We call it the suburb of Charlotte. Traffic can be tuff at times but most of my experience is from the Charlotte to Rock hill side of the area. Don't know anything about the medical side of the area though.

You got traffic every where but I would pick it. Not because I am from here. Every local has it's up and downs. Some are more than others.
I would suggest you come here and take a couple of weeks and stay in a couple hotels close to where you think it would suit you. It's all here, you need to experience it yourself to decide what you like. We have all the things other communities have. Including crime! Come on and HOLLER out when you get here, Maybe someone will be able to help you look at the lake.

Our oldest spent 2 years at Gardner Webb in athletic training to secure her bachelors degree. Great school and as you stated, the Boiling Springs area is fantastic.

I always have favored York County SC for the schools and taxes. Pretty hard to beat. With that said, we homeschool so we bought in Gastonia (28052) simply for the bang for the buck. As a retiree you may favor SC taxes etc. also. But you’ll experience a premium on your property prices when you shop around...29710...also the 28056, 28012 are all gonna run you some $$... one great thing about the area is church availability Lake Wylie Retirement ... My favorite is Kingsway Baptist Church in Lake Wylie (just sayin ) Lake Wylie Retirement

Lived out here 12 years and retired last June. Taxes are great for Seniors in SC. Like fishing Wylie and lots of great people out here.

SC taxes are better than NC, although Fort Mill is catching up in a hurry. Housing prices in Clover, Fort Mill, Tega Cay are skyrocketing right now. We just built out in Belmont in the 28012 zip and like stated before, those prices are going up too, but not as bad. If you plan on building, also take into consideration that while Fort Mill and Clover may have lower taxes, all new builds have an "impact fee" which adds $15,000-$18,000 to the cost of your home.
