Best advice I can give you is to pay close attention to anything Gabowman (AKA Butch) tells you.
Hi guys, I am in N GA (home lake is Lanier) but plan to start fishing Hartwell, Russell, and Clark Hill some since I have family/friends in the area. My Dad lives in Greenville, my sister in Augusta, and I have friends in Colombia county GA, and in McCormick SC. I grew up in Augusta, and fished the Hill and Savannah River a lot, but mostly from the banks. Now I am older, wiser, and have a boat, lol.
Can y'all recommend some general areas to try for crappie on the Hill? I am mostly a single-pole angler, I love to vertically jig brush, trees, and bridges, but I also long-line troll when that method is working. I have good electronics and can usually find some fish... I plan to use a ramp on the west (Ga) bank, but may put in at Dorn if I am visiting McCormick. TIA.

He'll probably drop in with some advice. He has a deer hunting affliction too so he may be in the woods.
But looking at his older posts would be a smart move. There are several others that fish the Hill successfully and may also comment. I just know Butch and have fished with him and he's pretty effective on this lake.

If youre visiting McCormick there's several creeks to fish....Soap, English, Little River, SC and it's tributaries to name a few. Best thing I'd recommend is pick you up a good lake map and plan areas to "scout". I never venture farther than Little River on SC and Ga side. There's a lot of creeks on both sides of the lake back towards the beginning of the lake to fish too if you wanna travel. I'd say anywhere you can find stained water is where you'll catch 'em, but since I don't fish brush maybe that isn't all that necessary. That's a start. Good luck to ya.

Hey Ray...'bout have the freezer full of deer meat so now all's I'm waiting on is the weather to cooperate and I'm going fishing. Already been a couple time. Probably caught more of those 1 lb stripers than I have crappie (Grrrr…..) but atleast I was catching. AND....aint set the woods on fire but have already had a mess or two of fresh fried crappie too. I'm ready to switch for awhile and fish some.

My sciatica has eased up so I'm hoping to get back on water soon.
Did you see the video Slab posted from his Santee trip? That's combat fishing, think I'll leave it to the younger guys.
Congrats on a successful deer season. Makes a great meal on cold winter days.
