    Default Secession

Someone mentioned Spotted Bass and I recall catching them while long lining for Crappie on Secession. Hadn't been for Sinkrmaker telling me what it was I would have thought it was Large Mouth. To my knowledge I had never caught one.
Has anyone fished Secession? I would mind a mixed bag of Crappie and Spots.

Hartwell is loaded with them too. So is Greenwood so it won't be long before Murray has a bunch, they get through the dams no problem. I've caught a few on Murray already and all were on the larger side but never in the numbers of Russell or Hartwell.

Keowee is also full of spotted bass. Tried to catch a few crappie on brush today before the wind hit. All I could manage was four spots. Glad to see cool weather finally blow in. Should start the turnover. Back of creeks still 79 deg F today on Keowee. Leaves need some cooler temps to start turning too...

    That was a mid-day temp.

LM have bigger mouths. LM also seem to have a wider body profile. Spots are more cigar shaped and have a splotchy coloration down the sides. LM are often just pale green down the side. Spots often tend to be more open water fishes in my experience. There are also differences in the tongue patches, but I can usually tell without looking in the mouths. Spots seem to have sharper and somewhat longer teeth too. Hope this helps.

On Russell when I pulled crankbaits the spots liked to hang around long points and tended to be in the shallow waters of the points. Every time I pulled cranks (Bandits) I was pulling two 300 (middle), two 200 and two 100's (outside) most of the spots were caught on the 200 and 100 cranks and between those two the 100's caught most. That's been a few years ago and as they grew they may have moved deeper. I don't remember the last time I caught a large mouth bass there.
