Yes the crappie fishing is good along with a good bass population. Things to do around the area is fishing.... You have Russell, Hartwell and Clark Hill lakes with all of them having good fishing and are big lakes. You have Anderson within 20-30 minutes and of course historic Abbeville close also. Secession is one of my favorite lakes to fish but it does get fished hard in the spring and fall.

The Abbeville Opera House(Home - Abbeville Opera House) is a great historic venue. It was built back around 1908 to host the Ziegfeld Follies and has been restored to original decor. Next door is the Belmont Inn and it has also been restored to it original grandeur. We try to come up for a weekend each year to stay at the Inn and catch one of the shows at the Opera House. The Inn features a package that includes room, breakfast, dinner and tickets to the current show. They are next door so you can walk easily.
The town has a neat town square with lots of history. I'm not an opera fan, however, most of the plays they put on are comedy and some are quite hilarious. I came on the recommendation of a friend and the wife and I had a great time.

The lake takes it's name from Secession Hill where the papers were signed marking the official secession of the South from the Union. Quite a bit of history here.
I also try to make a few trips to fish Secession in the spring and fall when the boaters and jet skiers are dormant. It is a good crappie lake and has a good population of Spotted Bass.

I have stayed at the Abbeville Opera House, I would not recommend it in the winter months, the heating was terrible but everything else was fine. The kids do a great job in Greenwood at the Theater close to the square also. And the tickets are reasonable. Pretty good fishing on Lake Greenwood too. I fish Lake Rabon more, it is closer. There is a good restaurant across the square in Abbeville too, The Village Grille.
