Default Wylie 7/24/2019 Ok I got pics.

Wife and I went out for a few hours had fun but tough fishing. Saw fish but hard to get to bite. Caught 8 an through back 5 keepers. Finally went to a small smoke jig to get them to bite. Going out tomorrow. Fished Beaver and Torrence single pole jig.

Nice pics, they bring out a question about my fishfinder, I purchased a Hook2 7x Triple Shot recently, I've burned too many tanks of fuel in my little boat, easing around looking for brush and structure. I have yet to see anything close to these pics or any of the countless vids I've watched. I know I'm set up properly, that's not the problem. So did I just need a $1000 unit? I only spent $350 on this one on sale at Cabelos. Most of my searching has been on Hartwell, but spent a day on Secession also. I guess my question is about a cheaper unit like this, is it just not that useful? If I sound frustrated, that because, well..........

As they say......you get what you pay for. I have two Lowrance elite 7’s. Not the best, actually not even great. But they do what I need them to do. I’m concerned with water depth and temperature. It works well at finding brush as long as you know what you are looking at when you see it on the graph. Changing the color schemes on the unit can greatly enhance its usability. Good looking pics CK, glad you and the Mrs. got out and was able to get a few in the boat.

Ink, that's my problem. I have a nice unit but I am not always sure what I am looking at on the graph. I have the Lowrance also and tried understanding the manual but it wasn't written by a dummy. Does anyone know of a instructional book for dummies?

If I remember correctly the 7X does not have GPS mapping does it? That is a big tool for me because I can pass over a good looking spot and if I don't make it on my map I spend 30 minutes zig zagging around trying to relocate what I saw. I have a Hook 7 on the front of my boat and the graphics are plenty good enough to create images like CK posted. U-tube is a great source for instructional videos. If you google Steve Comalander on U-tube you will see dozens of his videos on Crappie, White Perch, and Striped Bass fishing. He has a very basic depth finder on his boat but he catches a ton of fish using it.
