Default Back on the water, finally!

As you may know, I had quintuple bypass surgery in mid January and had been dry docked. My son and I got out a week earlier than I was supposed to for a short bass fishing attempt on Goose Creek Res in mid March. I put him on 5 and I lost my only hook up.

The next few weeks were spent dealing with a cold, the flu and my mother-in-law's hospitalization and eventual passing on the 31st. We know she's in Heaven, which is very comforting.

While my brother-in-law from Seattle was in town, we got out this past Thursday for a sunny afternoon of bluegill fishing on GCR. We got our limit of CNBGs and shellcrackers. We had several female prespawn shellcrackers that went over 2 lbs. They were released, along with any other females carrying eggs. Saturday afternoon my wife and I battled the rain and only got a couple. Yesterday we tried again under partly/mostly cloudy skies. The bite turned on whenever there was a little sunshine and shut down when there was none. We stuck with it and got our limit, again releasing the prespawn females. We did catch a few spawned out females, some over 1.5 lbs.

The crappies will have to wait. We're off to Murrell's Inlet for some deep sea fishing this weekend as we celebrate our 35th anniversary.

Some good time on the water sure does the soul feel stronger. It’s good to hear your health has improved and the fish bite has been good for you. Good luck on the salt water fishing.
