There is a lot of technology out there since I started back in early 80's. Some like a stiffer rod for control and get in a boat. I am not about numbers in the boat but the enjoyment of fighting the fish. That is why I like a short ultra light with 2 or 4 pound test for single pole fishing. Even a small fish like 12 inches will make that ultralight pole bend and fight is on. It makes it more up close and personal fighting the fish. For me it is the anticipation of the bite and the fight is on.

The main thing is having confidence in yourself and experience on the water to make adjustments in what the fish want. I have seen some remarkable fishermen fishing with equipment that looks like they got in a garage sale nobody wanted yet put fish in the boat in a consistent manner.

So with all that I have said there is no magic rod and reel to catch fish just different poles to suit different fishing styles with different comfort levels. Keep asking away there are a lot of really great fishermen and great people that are willing to share what works for them on this forum. Plus as a bonus there are a couple of loose ends here that try to make this fun in a light way.

Very well said, and yes each person has there own ways to jig fish. You have to go with the style rod that you like because at the end of the trip it’s about what works best for you.
