    Default Wylie 3-14-19

We were back out at daylight this morning after crappies. The bite is on right now. Longlining using jigs tipped with minnows worked well for us today. Off the water at about 12 but the fish were still biting. Ended up with 40 crappies & about 12 perch in the cooler for a fish fry. Threw back probally 20 more crappies about 8 to 12". Color did seem to matter today. Used black/yellow bodies, shad color bodies, & some yellow bodies

Water is clearing up pretty good in Beaverday & Torrence . Temperature was 58 when we left.

I'm not much of a long liner, more of a single pole jig guy. But I've always been curious when people talk about pulling jigs tipped with minnows, what kind of jig are most people using? I always assumed most people pulled curly tails or slider type jigs long lining. Seems like the minnow may hurt the action on those type bodies. Are people mostly pulling hair jigs when tipping with a minnow?

Also curious what depth range you found them today? I don't fish Wylie but I do plan to fish Greenwood on saturday and was wondering what depths to start looking.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

Good day for you Mr. Charles. I got talked out of going up there today. Glad I didn't because you got them all. I still got a couple days off left and may hit it at the right time. Thanks for the info and may see you out there next week.

We were in 20 30' water. Marked a lot of fish 12 to 18' & some just off the bottom. When longlining, we also have several drop shot rigs close to the bottom. Usually, pick up some crappies just off the bottom too. For the longlines, usually 1/16 single jigs or 1/16 jigs with an addition shot about the same size. Our speed is .6 to .8. I think out jigs are running down to about 12 to 15'. I like to keep changing directions just a little to keep the jigs changing depths.

We are using sliders, plastic bodies(some with flat tails, others not much tail at all). Never have used any hair jigs. Sometimes, we use a bare hook with minnows on the longlines. What color the fish want can change pretty quick. I like yellow, junebug, chartuse & several others with a chartuse tails.

Today, fish were just inside of creeks mouths.

I really appreciate the information. That's a good bit deeper than I thought you were going to say. I had a buddy that was getting them shallow on a jig and cork at Murray this evening so it sounds like they are really transitioning.
