This is a long time coming. My first post ever! I am 28 years old and have fished with my dad virtually my whole life. I grew up in Georgia and in 2005 our whole family made Clover/Lake wylie our home. As the Carolina years have rolled on we have had some great success up here! This past year my dad passed down the ole fishin boat to me! It is a 1973 Sears Jon Boat. Once my daughter fished with me last year she became the 5th generation to fish off this boat! It is a wonderful feeling!!! So I have my own set up etc. now that dad has his own new boat. I still fish with him but I solely care for the crappies. Last year I really perfected my dock-shooting, which I have worked on for years, and I boated dozens upon dozens during the day before work on the evening shift. Now is my turn for long-lining. I made up my mind in January that not only would I make lake wylie my home/go to lake, I would perfect all the styles of fishing it! I look forward to all the input you guys can give me regarding this technique of long-lining. I have night fishing and dock shooting down pat so it is time to learn something new! This Tuesday I could not resist the urge to take a day off and fish the 65 degree sunshine :) I fished Withers Cove and the main channel also. The water hovered in the 49-51 range and was very dirty and trashy. I picked up several stragglers along the way pulling 1/16 oz jigs. Solid chartreuse worked the best. I caught some perch, a cat, a 20" bass, and several crappie( 15 or so ). I kept 8 that were all 10" or better with the best being about 14". I am thrilled to have even caught any, much less some good ones considering how new I am. It can only get better from here!

Welcome to Crappie.Com and enjoyed reading your first post.
There is a longlining sticky on the South Carolina board that should answer questions you may have.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

Welcome aboard. You happen to be in the midst of a great group of Lake Wylie guys (with maybe a notable exception or two )
I used to do a bit of dock shooting at Wylie also and had good luck with it.
Join in on the upcoming spring outing on Wylie and you'll meet some of the guys.
