Glad you went Mr. Charles! Thanks for the report. That's how we got ours few at a time. We just kept moving around. Maybe Saturday it will be better!
We made another trip to monticello today. Weather was nice with not too much wind. Put in at the upper landing. We tried several spots towards the upper end but only caught small perch.
Ran down to below the islands out from the lower landing. Fishing in about 45 to 50', we started catching some larger perch. Made one short drift for cats but no takers. Back to perch fishing.
Moved on down towards the power plant. Started marking & catching some good size perch. Most of our perch were caught at 45 to 50' on minnows. I caught only a few on spoons.
Also, we caught 7 bass with the largest about 5 lbs.
Ended up with about 120 perch but only about 25 were good size, 3 small cats & 7 bass.
Seems like after we caught a couple of good size perch, the small ones would move in.

I thought that was you Charles!! Fished close to you down near the power plant. I was in the ranger walk thru windshield. We did pretty must what you did. 100+ caught only kept 40 perch and 4 cats and 8 bass. All the bass were 3-4 pounds, no big ones today. All were caught on jigging spoons tight to the bottom. Killed them on a 1/4 oz. CastMaster with a built in rattle!! Got to get a few spares!! Only had one!!
BigDawgg thanked you for this post
I tried several spoons while my partner was catchng perch on minnows. Gold, white, silver 1/2 oz but got only a few hits. Looks like the smaller spoon with a rattle was the ticket. Where did you find the kastmaster spoons with rattles?
We thought that was you down there. Also, it seems like the perch bite is better in the afternoon.
I tried several spoons all day but my fishing buddy caught most of our perch on minnows.
Charles I picked that one up at Gander Outdoors. Wish I could have fished one without the rattle to compare. I tried different spoons and sliders jigs too, nothing performed like the
Kastmaster. You’ll be surprised how well that 1/4 oz gets to the bottom in 40+ feet.
Looks like another good day on catching fish.
Thanks for sharing enjoyed your post for this is my 4th week of cabin fever.
