Default November Fishing Reports (and Hunting too)

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It's been a little while since I posted up a report because I really haven't been fishing much. It's been honey-do's with a little deer hunting mixed in the last few months for me. Deer season started off slow for me and I really didn't see much at the beginning of season. I wound up taking a little more than a month off to work on finishing the upstairs at the house and started back hunting in late October. A little cooler weather made all the difference in the world I started and started seeing a few deer. I've killed a couple does and finally found a decent buck to pull the trigger on earlier this month. He was not a monster, but he weighed 150# and went a long way in filling the freezer. He had a pretty black finish to part of his rack that I assume came from some velvet that shed late and he also had a double throat patch with two white markings, which is a first for me.

With deer in the freezer it was time to get back to fishing a little bit. We were signed up to fish the SC Crappie Association Tournament on Wateree the weekend before Thanksgiving and we took a practice trip the Friday before. High, cold, fresh water really gave the crappie lock jaw. We never saw a crappie and the tournament results reflected some TOUGH fishing. As slow as the crappie were, the catfish and striper were on fire and we had a good time at least catching some fish.

Last week I was fortunate enough to have a few days off of work and I couldn't wait to try my luck on Lake Murray. The lake has come up a great deal with the recent rains but the water color has settled out to a fishable stain. My dad joined me on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and my Uncle joined on Black Friday. Both days we were greeted with cold temps and Friday brought the winds. Our method of choice was tightlining and we found the fishing to be pretty good. Wednesday we caught around 50 crappie and brought home 37. Friday we caught around 30 and brought home 25. Big fish were hard to come by, but good eating sized fish were plentiful. Both trips were beyond enjoyable and the crappie fever has hit me hard!!! The deer are almost safe from me at this point. Hopefully, I'll get to try them again this weekend.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

Nice report and pictures Derick. Glad you got to deer hunt and fill that freezer. The crappie fishing looks to be good but it will be about a month before I can start fishing again. Left knee replacement has got me in the recliner. Thanks for sharing

Seems you been doing it all and enjoying it at the same time. That's a nice buck and the fishing was good too! Glad to hear a report from you. I was thinking the other day about what you had done foe the season so far. Haven't seen any pictures of deer. Good job on everything and keep us posted. Great pictures Thanks!
